Poetry Parlour Show 6 hosted by Anna Robinson – International Women’s Day special with Saradha and Sundra Lawrence The discussions focuses on poetry and creative practice with a selection of inspirational music and poems including Rita Dove’s Persephone Abducted from Mother Love and a Karen Smith poem ‘Drawing Lesson after John Ashbery from her collection Schist which was selected by Carol Ann Duffy for the 2019 Laureate’s Choice series. Saradha discusses the Edinburgh University poet in non residency CHAGOS: Cultural Heritage Across Generations, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council in the UK. ‘The project aims to help share and preserve the cultural heritage of the Chagossian community’. Saradha reads two poems ‘ The strength and weakness of the coconut’ and ‘ In her deepest sleep Madame Lisette Talate returns to Chagos’.
Unfortunately due to technical difficulties the selected music tracks were not was played including Sundra’s chosen song Tracey Chapman fast car performed for Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday celebrations. Wembley stadium, London (1988) and Saradha’s choice ‘Mo ti ena 13 ena’ by the Chagossian Tambour group was voiced unrehearsed in solidarity with the Chagossians.
